Pro tip: It's also home to one of the best places in the Bay Area to hone your craft in The Image Flow and, increasingly, that includes photography workshops for kids and teens. The community photography hub at 401 Miller Ave. just unveiled a quartet of fall workshops focused on youth and taught by The Image Flow’s Constance Chu.
The series kicks off with Digital Photography for Kids (Sept. 11-Oct. 16) which has Chu leading a group of aspiring young photographers on a fun and challenging journey of photographic exploration and learning in this kids photography after school class.
That workshop is followed by Digital Photography for Teens, an after school class that runs Sept. 16-Oct. 21 and is ideal for novice photographers. Students will learn important photography basics, such as how to use a camera in manual mode, as well as understanding qualities of light to enhance their work. They’ll also be exposed to the works of great photographers like Cindy Sherman, Richard Avedon, and Sebastião Salgado, to inspire them further as they learn photography essentials.
Next up is Intermediate Kids Photography (Oct. 23-Dec. 4), an assignment-based kids photography class that will build on your kid's skills and help them develop new ones. It's also meant to be a continuation class for students who have taken one or more introductory photography for kids classes or photography camps. Exercises will reinforce knowledge of manual camera operations and expand on post-processing possibilities in Adobe Lightroom Classic.
The final workshop is Street Photography for Kids (Oct. 28-Dec. 9), an after school photography camp that includes a field trip to Pier 24 Photography on the Embarcadero.
