The group, which fits into the longstanding Czech string quartet tradition, was founded in 1994 while the members were still students. It features František Souček and Petr Střížek on violin, Petr Holman on viola and Vladimír Fortin on violoncello.
Named after the Austrian composer, conductor and teacher Alexander Zemlinsky, who made a contribution to Czech, German, and Jewish culture during his 16-year residence in Prague, the ensemble won the First Grand Prize at the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition in 2010.
The Zemlinsky Quartet will present an all-Czech program to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia.
