Teresa’s Nail Care Celebrates 25 Years in Mill Valley

Behind every business is a story of how they got there, and in the case of Teresa’s Nail Care – tucked into the space at 38 Miller near the back of the Mill Creek Plaza building containing All Wrapped Up and Balboa Cafe – it’s a tale of decades of dedication.

The Dinh family that owns and runs the nail salon commutes 45 minutes each way each day from their home in Pinole in the East Bay to downtown Mill Valley, knowing that while they can’t afford the 94941’s astronomical real estate prices, they enjoy a plethora of customer relationships that date back to their debut.

“It’s well worth the commute – our clients make it worth it,” says Annie Dinh, the daughter of Michael and Mary Dinh, who own the shop with Mary’s sister Teresa, who opened it in 1982 after fleeing Vietnam as a refugee and arriving in the Bay Area. Teresa lived in San Rafael at the time, later moving to San Jose when her husband got a job there. She still co-owns the shop but Annie and her parents run it day-to-day.

From manicures and pedicures to nail design and massage, Teresa’s offers a wide array of services, Annie Dinh says.

“We have people who have been coming here so long that they treat us like family, and we treat them the same,” Dinh says.

The 411: Teresa’s Nail Salon is located at 38 Miller Avenue in the Mill Creek Plaza building that contains All Wrapped Up and Balboa Cafe. The salon is open Monday–Saturday, 10am–7pm, Sunday by appointment only. Call (415) 389-0530 for more info or to make an appointment.

But all was not lost… Lately, I’ve been testing out ways to make my traditional manicure last longer. And it turns out that if the right steps are taken, even regular polish can last almost a whole week.
