“These days are so just beautiful in Mill Valley,” Young says. “The views and the town – it almost brings tears to my eyes that I actually live in this place. What a pleasure it is. And I feel a responsibility to keep it that way.”
Over the past 14 years, along with her fellow Bloomathon volunteers, many of whom have been regularly beautifying Mill Valley for a whopping 30 years, Young has done just that. From Lytton Square and the Depot Plaza downtown to the Mill Valley Community Center and a host of roadway medians and gardens in between, a relatively small group of volunteers has left a huge imprint on the seasonally colorful beauty of the City of Mill Valley.
They’ll continue that tradition with the annual Bloomathon planting, set for Saturday from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Mill Valley Community Center (180 Camino Alto), with a variety of daffodil bulbs and colorful annuals to be planted in beds around the Community Center and elsewhere. A subsequent landscaping event is slated for November 1 at City Hall.
